Every year during the month of Holi, the villages of Barsana and Nandgaon come alive with sounds, music and colours. Weeks before the main event, preparations are underway, with locals adorning streets with decorations and practicing traditional folk songs and dances.The festivities begin with a procession, wherein Nandgaon men walk towards Barsana. But here these men are treated with lathis and colours by the women of Barsana. The men are generally armed with shields and try to save themselves from these happy attacks. The whole celebration is followed by laughter and joy as the mock battle reminds of Krishna and Radha's legendary and playful love.
