Ezhimala Beach is one of the famous and oldest beaches of Kerala, something around 55 km from Kannur. Lined with myriad swaying palm grooves and surrounded with coconut trees, the beach has a unique beauty to it. The destination is visited by thousands of tourists and holidaymakers and beach lovers each year and is known for the serenity surrounding it. The sunset and sunrise views here are actually to die for! No kidding! People come here to witness the views which are also perfect for photo enthusiasts. Another gorgeous part of this beach are the scattered sculptured stone pillars all over, which look remarkable. The little hillock surrounded with the sea is just what everyone dreams of when thinking about relaxing. The term Ezhimala is the combination of two words 'ezhu' meaning ‘seven’ and 'mala' meaning ‘peaks’. This place is also rich with medicinal plants and herbs and is always a point of research for many.Apart from being beautiful, the beach also has some mythological and historic importance which attracts visitors from all across the globe. It is said that Lord Buddha stopped at this beach while travelling across the country. Also some are of the belief that this hillock was dropped here by none other than the Lord Hanuman while he was carrying the Sanjeevani booti to save the life of Lord Lakshman. So obviously, this place is of utmost importance. There’s also a temple here dedicated to Lord Hanuman and people visit in large number to pray to the god.
Nature lovers and photo enthusiasts have a lot to do here. About 286 km high, there’s a lovely hillock next to the beach which adds to the natural splendour of the destination. Apart from roaming on the beach, travellers can also visit a small but lovely mosque on this hill. Mount Deli Lighthouse is another prime tourist attraction in proximity to the beach. Besides, the Indian Naval Academy also has a base here. Tourist can enjoy the charismatic splendour of the beach and relax amidst nature far away from the maddening crowd. Also keep your eyes open for dolphins. If you are lucky, you might just spot one playing with the waves and dancing in the middle of sea.
How to reach the Ezhimala Beach
By Air: Those travelling by air can get their tickets booked till Calicut International Airport, which is about 98 km from the beach. From the airport, one can hire cab or taxis to reach the destination which takes around two hours.
By Train: Kannur Railway Station is the nearest railhead serving the beach, which is about 50 km. From outside the railway station, travellers can opt for public transport or get a cab to reach the beach.
By Road: Kannur is well linked with neighbouring states with a good road network. State buses and local transports are easily available for the beach from any destination of Kerala.
