Places perfect for your Diwali family holiday
If you are thinking about a family holiday in India, this is the best time to do so. Diwali is right around the corner and this is the time when most people, if they want to celebrate Diwali a little bit differently, plan an outstation getaway. Some do this to get away from the chaotic city scene, and some for the change in scenery, to see how other cities celebrate Diwali. We think it is adventurous.
Here are some of the best places in India where you and your family can go for a nice Diwali holiday.
Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh
Diwali in one of the holiest cities in India is an experience you do not want to miss out on. If the festival holds a special place in your heart, Varanasi is a great pick. It becomes a magical place with ghats of the Ganges River illuminated with thousands of diyas.
Jaipur, Rajasthan
When you see this iconic city with marvellous architecture all decorated with lights and the colourful markets with their best offerings, this is not something you will forget easily. The Pink City of Jaipur is a visual delight the whole year around but come Diwali, it’s just a little bit more special.
Mumbai, Maharashtra
Diwali is celebrated with great pomp and show in Mumbai. With the entire city all lit up, the already pretty city Mumbai looks even more stunning. Mumbai will also let you witness stunning firework displays along Marine Drive.
Udaipur, Rajasthan
The City of Lakes, Udaipur, is all about pretty palaces and lakes. Diwali is that special time when these beautiful palaces get illuminated like never before. The lakeside views, especially during the nighttime, are simply magical.
Goa
Well, people may not visit Goa to see diyas, firecrackers and temples adorned with festive decorations. But what they get out of the place is a lot of beach fun, offbeat experiences, quiet getaways and a lot of Konkan goodness.
Rann of Kutch, Gujarat
The Rann of Kutch in Gujarat hosts the Rann Utsav, which coincides with Diwali. It’s the perfect time to get the best of both. Here, you can mix the festival’s fun with the culture and tradition of the Kutch region.
Delhi
The capital city celebrates Diwali with grand fireworks displays at India Gate, Akshardham Temple, and other key locations. The local markets in Delhi are great for festive shopping and delicious street food. If you are in Delhi during Diwali, you can also head out to Noida and Gurugram.
Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh
Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Rama, is one of the main places in India where Diwali is celebrated with great fervour. Some also believe that this is where Diwali was celebrated for the first time.
