Today Dubrovnik’s old port is used by fishermen and local citizens to anchor their boats and yachts which was once an integral part of the 15th century fortification and a centre for all maritime trading activities. It sits on the eastern end of the city and is the first point of contact with Dubrovnik for anyone coming to the city by boat.St. John’s fort stands guard at the old port, flanked by local jetties called Kaše and Porporela that are perfect for a walk at any time of the day, especially sunset. Many restaurants, cafés and local vendors line the pier and are frequented by locals and visitors alike. There’s nothing better than sitting in the sun, listening to some live music, and watching the boats float by on turquoise waters. If you happen to be in the city during the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, the port is the perfect place to watch the fireworks.
