This lesser known island is a perfect place for a weekend getaway if you are looking to relax, soak in the sights and avoid lots of people. This small island is adorned with a variety of different landscapes including a rocky shore that boasts of picturesque steep hills, cascading waterfalls, a 300 mi. coastline home to beaches and bays as well as lush green grass throughout. We suggest staying in the capital of Tobermory which is surrounded by bright colored buildings along with plenty of shops and restaurants. Hikers will enjoy the many trails throughout the island including climbing Ben More, a steep and challenging trek with magnificent views. There is a castle to be discovered through the summer months, white sand beaches with spectacular sunsets and even a whiskey distillery. Make sure to try some of the fresh seafood at one of the many farms to table restaurants. Getting here isn’t hard with just a three-hour drive from Edinburgh and once you reach Oban, simply hop on the ferry.
