‘Overtourism’ has now become a scary word for many, and Dubrovnik is its most recent hit. This supremely gorgeous Croatian city is suffering largely from the toxicity of over-tourism after its appearances on several superhit series. To fight the situation, the city administration has decided to ban new restaurants for almost five years.
Since then, the city is desperately trying to keep a check on the suddenly increased tourist footfall. Also, a special thanks to social media and Instagram filters! The already stuffed ancient streets of the UNESCO-listed town of Dubrovnik are packed with more and more foreign tourists now. Last summer, UNESCO warned the city officials to keep a tab on the number of visitors, especially those entering the city on cruise ships.
