India’s first AC suburban train runs on Mumbai tracks

Mumbaikars received some really amazing Christmas gifts this year. Indian Railways introduced country’s first air conditioned (AC) suburban local train on the day of Christmas which is no less than a blessing for the residents. Flagging off ceremony of the train was done by State Education Minister Vinod Tawde, and Borivali station was chosen for its first journey to Churchgate.
The first train that left at 10.30 AM in the morning was packed with passengers of all ages, from senior citizens to kids. Also the fare of AC suburban train is 1.2 times the first class ticket. The residents are absolutely happy with this AC train as this will bring them immense respite during harsh summer months.


There will be six return services this week operating on all weekdays at regular intervals. The weekends have been reserved for maintenance purposes.
The WR chief public relations officer Ravinder Bhakar said, "This is being done till Friday. The AC train will run on regular basis between Churchgate and Virar stations, with total 12 services including those in peak hours, from January 1."

The new AC local trains are also packed with latest security features such as automatic door closure and emergency talk system. This will help passengers to communicate with motorman or guard in an emergency situation.
