Neelakurinji flower bloom to soon happen in Munnar

The Neelakurinji blooming season, also a major tourist attraction, is fast approaching and Kerala Tourism is expecting a footfall of more than 8 lakh travellers. Travel buffs and nature lovers patiently wait for this season to have this wonderful experience.
Neelakurinji is commonly found across the Western Ghats, and the eye-soothing purplish-blue colour of the flowers, will leave you awestruck with its visual extravaganza. These flowers, when in bloom, cover vast areas over hills and the surrounding landscape. The blooming season starts from July and continues till October.

These flowers bloom after a long wait of 12 years and Munnar is best known for them. There is no better time than this to visit this hill station. And since this flowers bloom after more than a decade, they make for a rare spectacle.
Talking about this flower blooming season, P. Bala Kiran, IAS, Director, Department of Tourism, Kerala Government, said, “There is no better time to visit Munnar than the time when Neelakurinji plants bloom en masse. As many as 628,427 tourists had visited Munnar in 2017 with an increase of 34.31 percent as compared to 467,881 vacationers in 2016. The Tourism Department is expecting a growth of 79 percent in tourist arrivals to Munnar this year. This unique lifecycle of the plant makes the hills a must-visit destination for travel enthusiasts.”
To ensure that the hill station is able to accommodate the expected number of tourists, Kerala Tourism has ensured that it will take various steps to enhance the infrastructure in Munnar. Steps will also be taken to create hassle-free waste management, and vehicles will be regulated and given sufficient parking space.
