Nawalgarh, Rajasthan

Nawalgarh is a town located in Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan. It forms a significant part of Shekhawati region, and lies 30 km from Sikar and 39 km from Jhunjhunu. Nawalgarh is best known for its fresco and havelis; it is famous as the Golden City of Rajasthan.
In 1674 AD, Maharaja Nawal Singh laid the foundations of Nawalgarh at Rohili village. This event happened before abolition of Jagirs in Rajasthan. Several Marwari business families such as the Birlas, Goenkas, Khaitan, Kedia, Nemani, Poddar, Ramgarhia, Nawalgarhia etc. hail from Nawalgarh. Nawalgarh was a the well-planned towns of Shekhawati.

Although, Nawalgarh is not famous as a tourist spot, history and culture buffs can still find treasures in the form of its heritage sites. The Roop Niwas Palace made by Thakur Kunwar Jagmal Singh Ji is one such place. It is located a kilometre away from Nawalgarh fort. It is a beautiful heritage hotel having charming gardens, and welcomes tourists who wish to experience royal hospitality.
The Nawalgarh Fort (Bala Kila Fort) made by Maharaja Nawal Singh in the late 17th century is perhaps the oldest structure in town. However, due to the rigours of time, it has lost its original charm. Nowadays, there are a few government offices and branches of a few bansk in the fort premises.

Tourists can also visit Murarka Haveli, S Chhawchharia haweli Bansidhar Bhagat Haveli, Chokhani Haveli, Sanganeria Haveli (behind mahamaya mandir),Seksaria Haveli, Poddar Haveli, Bhagat Haveli, Bedia Haveli, Chudi wali Haveli, Morarka Haveli and Jummachoudry haveli.
