Amalfi

While the first glimpse of Amalfi will warm your heart in unparalleled ways, getting acquainted with the history of this coastal town will break it into several pieces. A ravaging 14th century earthquake caused most of this place to get washed away by the sea, yet the locals have exhibited exemplary resilience and rebuilt Amalfi from scratch. While a 30-minute walk is enough for you to see the entire length of this town, the crowded and perpetually sunny piazzas are proof of how popular this city is. There’s isn’t much history left for one to witness but the tiny beach is a delight for those looking to relax in oblivion. The gluttons will also leave satiated because the Amalfi coast is nothing but a culinary paradise.

Getting there: Hopping on to a ferry from Naples is the fastest and cheapest way to get to Amalfi and the entire coastal region. From Mollo Beverello port in Naples, there are ferry services that take you to Sorrento. From there, you could catch another ferry to Amalfi. Cars are also available for rent and the route predictably is scenic. The price, however, is a little on the higher side and therefore not suitable for backpackers.
