The denizens of Mussoorie in Uttarakhand were in for a pleasant surprise on Saturday as the hill station received season’s first snowfall. It started snowing in the wee hours of Saturday, accompanied by rain, blanketing even the lower reaches of the region. It came as a surprise as Mussoorie usually does not see snowfall, a far cry from Landour that is just a drive of around 30 minutes from it.
Tourists could be seen enjoying the fresh snow as Mussoorie famous Mall Road turned colourful with umbrellas popping up all over. Happy kids could be seen all over the hill station, building snowmen and whatnot out of the freshly-falling snow. While the wind was quite nippy, it did not act as a detriment to travellers’ joy.
As per further predictions by the Met Dept., the hill station would see another cold wave in the coming few days. While there is no prediction for more snowfall, it is a likely possibility in the current conditions.
Uttarakhand’s plains are also reeling under another cold wave, as the sun continued to play hide and seek for the week. There is a chance of more rainfall across the state, which will likely lead to mercury taking a dip again. Further, the upper reaches of Uttarakhand, including Tungnath and Uttarakashi are also covered under layers of snow. So yes, this is the perfect time to plan a road trip to the state for some winter fun, albeit with caution.
