This tranquil mountain village situated on the foothills of the imposing Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau is a delight for those who revel in doing nothing. Step out of your cosy wooden chalet to be greeted by the most wonderful views of the Swiss Alps or you could snuggle up with a book and a cup of coffee on the wide stretch of grassland. Nobody will stop you. No traffic will interrupt you and no soul will make an attempt to bring you out of your reverie. Murren is car-free and almost never crowded. Every little thing about this place will bring back images from the celebrated fiction ‘Heidi’.At an elevation of 1650 m, Murren is yet another ski paradise in Switzerland. A popular starting point for walking trails, Murren, for most travellers is a day-trip destination from Grindelwald. However, I would strongly suggest you spend a couple of days here and spoil yourself. When in Murren, an excursion to Jungfraujoch, the top of Europe and the peak of Schilthorn, where a James Bond movie was filmed, is a good idea.
There are several intercity rail services from the airports of Zurich and Geneva to Bern where you need to change trains and board the train service to Interlaken Ost. You then need to change again for the regional train service to Lauterbrunnen. The last part of the journey involves a cable car ride from Lauterbrunnen followed by a short electric train journey from the top of the cable car to the village of Murren.
