Minister for Shipping and Ports Nitin Gadkari and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis have in fact laid the foundation stone for the city’s upcoming international cruise terminal, which is reportedly going to span across an area of more than 4.15 lakh sq ft.
Being constructed at an estimated cost of INR 300 crore, Mumbai’s new international cruise terminal will be ready by June 2019. According to what the Mumbai Port Trust have revealed, the new terminal is going to be an attraction for local citizens and tourists as there will be restaurants and retail outlets.
When it comes to the usefulness of this new terminal, it will be capable of holding seven lakh passengers at a time and host cruise ships with a capacity of up to 5,000 passengers.
When this new cruise terminal becomes operational, Mumbai is expected to be a port city handling 80 percent of the country’s cruise passengers, and at the same time it is believed to become capable of increasing both domestic and international tourists visiting India.
