Summers are the time for Medicine Lake for it will be lost later! This lake has a slow underground drainage system & drains water upto the Maligne Canyon, but in late springs & summer the glacial water flow being plenty, it retains much of it for your visual appeal! Come fall & winter, most of the water will be gone & it won’t look much of a lake. Its drainage network of underground caves is supposedly one of the largest ever know to men. The Natives believe it to be the work of spirits, the modern men owe it to its drainage system, but I just know to be bewitched by its charm! The surrounding dense forests that have been charred lately only add to the mystical vibe of this lake. The tour guides explained how the forest fires were benign phenomena, the genesis for new life. Medicine Lake is also richly endowed with wild life, with Grizzlies, black bear, wolves, caribou & mountain sheep seen frequenting the area.
