One of the best kept and most attractive mosques in the district is Malik Deenar Mosque, founded by Malik Deenar. It has the grave of Malik Deenar who is said to have been one of the companions and direct disciples of the Islamic prophet Muhammad, and hence this mosque is much revered. Malik Deenar and 12 of his associates landed in Kerala with a mission to propagate Islam apart from trade. Built in typical Kerala style, this mosque has sloped roof and resembles a Kerala Kovilakam (the principal manor). While you are here check out the historic Arabic verses engraved in the centre of the wooden roof. An important annual celebration is held here to commemorate the arrival of Malik Deenar, and the Uroos attracts pilgrims from all over India. The mosque is spread over a large area and the well-maintained trimmed lawn and a plethora of trees add to its overall ambience. The best part of this site is that in spite of being a heritage mosque, there are no commercial establishments here to disturb the serenity and charm of Malik Deenar Mosque.
