As per an official statement, the Maharashtra Tourism department’s list will be a good mix of valleys, mountains, beaches, cultural and heritage sites, and adventure tourism. The department will also issue necessary guidelines for the state’s tourism policy over the next three months.
Revealing information about this development, VK Gautam, principal secretary, Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department, said, “Once we identify the 25 places, we will create a hub-and-spoke model and promote them. Under the model, three main hubs — Mumbai, Aurangabad and Nagpur — will be identified, and attractions around these hubs will be promoted.” Gautam further stated, “Instead of spreading our resources thin, we are trying to concentrate on places that have value for tourists.”

The Maharashtra Government will now be developing infrastructure for the 25 spots, which made it to the list. As per the reports, Raigad Fort and Murud-Janjira are likely to make it to the list.
Subhash Goyal, general secretary of the Federation of Association of Indian Tourism and Hospitality, welcomed the state government’s move saying that Maharashtra has great potential to become a tourist hub, but most of its destinations were not marketed well.

As per industry experts, a single tourist can create jobs for 16 people and Maharashtra has potential to create to create 10 percent of that target.
