Maboneng or the ‘Place of Light’ is a fittingly named district that is home to some of the best artists and creative minds of Johannesburg. And to that end, the finest art galleries, retail spaces, fashion boutiques, studios and coffee shops in the Gauteng Province can be found in this area. The precinct has been developed by keeping millennials in mind and is perhaps the most urban pocket of Jo’burg. A breeding ground of ideas and a cradle for entrepreneurs, Arts on Main is the premier development of Maboneng where former warehouses have been transformed into modern office spaces. The nearby Main Street Life complex has excellent exhibition rooms, restaurants, multiplexes and theatres. Moreover, the Main Change Building is one of the best co-working spaces in the area and even comes with a healing centre, a meditation zone, a spa and a restaurant that serves healthy fare. The Revolution House with its film studios, clothing stores, brow bars and event arenas is a perfect example of how residences can exist in perfect harmony with major workrooms. Make sure you also pay the Museum of African Design a visit so as to understand contemporary African art.
