Aptly named, Little India is an Indian enclave in George Town around Lebuh Queen, Lebuh Chulia and Jalan Pasar (Market Street). Popular with shoppers looking for silk and cotton, and the ubiquitous Indian fare, this enclave is also home to the Sri Mahamariamman Temple—the oldest Hindu temple in Malaysia. The temple becomes a hub of activity during the annual celebration of Thaipusam when pilgrims carry kavadis on their back and take out a procession.
