Latvian Ethnographic Open Air Museum

Just a drive from the downtown area, the Latvian Ethnographic Open Air Museum is located on the banks of Lake Jugla. It is one of the oldest and largest open air museums in the world and contains 118 historical buildings from Latvia’s four provinces. Here you can learn about the different regions of Latvia and their histories, and all the details of daily life. You can stroll through traditional farmsteads and the dwelling homes of craftsmen, and view the work of traditional craftsmen.
This museum also involves participation and will keep anyone engaged. You can do everything from enjoying a traditional Latvian meal to trying out making pottery or coins or traditional Latvian games. The museum is located in a gorgeous pine forest and in its own right is a beautiful area to visit. You can also purchase various crafts, and sometimes enjoy events such as Easter or the Summer/Winter solstice.
