Heavy rain wreaks havoc in Karnataka; red alert in Mysore and other areas

The monsoon season is at its peak, and different parts of India are facing a hard time dealing with excessive rains and flood-like situations. Now, after Maharashtra and Assam, it is Karnataka that is under a spell of heavy monsoon rains.
According to the reports, the northern districts of Karnataka are grappling with flood situation due to overflowing water from reservoirs in the Krishna river basin of Maharashtra. Consequently, the villages, agricultural land and barrage-cum-bridges have been flooded with rainwater.

Public transport services such as bus and train have been disrupted in the northern part of Karnataka. On its part, the Karnataka State Fire and Emergency Services Department has put on duty 200 workmen for carrying out rescue-related tasks in the flooded areas.


Reportedly, many trees have fallen off their roots in Udupi owing to strong winds and heavy rain. Furthermore, more than 140 electricity poles have been damaged in Udupi with trees falling over.

News also has it that the state administration has told the tehsildars to compensate wherever the damage of property has taken place.

On the other hand, the Pune-Bengaluru stretch of National Highway 48 has been closed for vehicular movements for a few days. Kognoli in Maharashtra also experienced landslide on Monday evening and there were flood-like situations in Kakati, Kolhapur and Yamagarni villages.

An orange alert has also been issued for Mysore or Mysuru city in Karnataka. Meanwhile, the rain-starved Delhi-NCR has been receiving heavy rain since Tuesday evening.
