The Delhi airport is all set to invest INR 9,800 crore in order to upgrade Terminal 1 of the airport, a dual elevated Eastern Cross Taxiway, and also to build a fourth runway. Additionally, there will be other developmental work, and the airport is aiming to increase its capacity to 100 million passengers a year. Currently, its capacity is to host 66 million passengers each year.
According to I Prabhakar Rao, Deputy Managing Director, GMR Group, the funds have been arranged, and the airport has already gone into international bonds. He further said that the cost of this expansion is going to be covered through a combination of three components, namely, internal cash accruals, real estate monetisation, and borrowings.
According to the new plan, the T1 apron is going to be demolished, and new structure would be constructed, which can hold up to 82 aircrafts. The expansion work at the airport will likely be completed between July 2020 and June 2022.
