Kochi Airport was shut down on August 15 because of severe flooding, and was expected to resume operation on August 26. But, because of damage to electric installations, the landing systems had to undergo thorough checking and might further require calibration before flight operations are resumed. In view of such apprehensions, the CIAL decided to push the date of resuming operations at Kochi Airport further by three more days.
Some of the airlines moved their operations to nearby airports, i.e., Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode following the closure of Kochi Airport. And now, if all goes well, CIAL informed that Koch Airport will start all operations at 1400 hours on August 29.
