Parameshwar Tal

Located in the north-west region of Chanderi, Parmeshwar Tal is surrounded by heritage structures that will amuse both the history and mythology admirers. Raja Shishupal Tank that sits at the centre of the complex holds a lot of mythical value. It is known that King Shishupal was lost in the jungle and he was thirsty. In order to quench his thirst, a goddess appeared in guise of a woman and created a pool of water for him.
As per another legend, King Kirtipal who was inflicted with leprosy accidentally dipped his hands in the water, and his scars from leprosy were cured. The goddess in return asked for an offering where she asked him to construct a temple where King Shishupal organised a yajna (ritual of offering). She asked him not to install any idol in the temple and instructed him to keep the doors shut for 9 days. She also mentioned to him that on the 10th day when he will open the door, he will find her incarnated statue in the temple. He did as instructed and constructed a temple atop a hill; however immense curiosity and impatience led him to open the door before time. This led to a whiff of hot air and he was inflicted with leprosy again. This is where they say ‘Boodhi Chanderi’ went on a decline, therefore compelling people of Chanderi to move to the small town that it stands today. Many locals still believe that the pond’s water has therapeutic powers and it cures them of any skin diseases.
