If it was just one place that we had to suggest to visit around Bolzano, then without a doubt Karersee Lake would be our pick. Carezza Lake, as it is called in Italian, is a centre of amazement with charming mountains in the background and lush green forests in between, made of firs tightly pressed against one another. If you have ever seen photos of Banff National Park in Canada, then that’s pretty much how this crystalline lake looks like. You can even see the reflection of the massive Latemar in the water of the lake, except during the period of drought, when the level of the water might be quite low and you could be disappointed. Nonetheless, it is possible to do a complete loop around the lake, which would take about an hour and a half on foot. Moreover, you don’t have to exert much to reach this natural beauty as it is located on the State Road 241. There is a convenient parking space, from where all you have to do is descend a few steps to reach Karersee Lake.
