IRCTC’s latest gift: free Wi-Fi on all Kalka-Shimla rail stops

Time to cheer up travellers as the IRCTC is gifting free Wi-Fi for all on 15 Kalka-Shimla rail stops! Earlier, the facility was available at only three stations, namely Kalka, Shimla and Solan. But now, free Wi-Fi is also available at Koti, Kandaghat, Kaithlighat, Dharampur, Kanoh, Sanwara, Shoghi, Gumman, Tara Devi, Summerhill, Barog, Kumarhatti Dagshai, Salogra, Jutogh and Taksal. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the 96.60-km long Kalka-Shimla railway line is quite popular and attracts travellers from all over.
As per an IRCTC press release, RailTel has converted all 15 railway stations into a digital centre by offering public Wi-Fi through its RailWire Wi-Fi project. The broadband connectivity is made live with ‘RailWire’ Wi-Fi by RailTel, which is a Miniratna PSU under the Ministry of Railways.

Before this, RailTel was responsible for providing high-speed Wi-Fi at 746 stations across the country. This catered to around eight million users per month, as per a railway official.
The PSU is among the largest and fastest public Wi-Fi networks of the world, designed for the best internet experience. Any user having a smartphone can enjoy the facility of RailWire free Wi-Fi.

According to Puneet Chawla, Chairman and Managing Director, RailTel, the connection is quite secure and travellers can safely use the RailWire WiFi.

How to use IRCTC Wi-Fi on Kalka-Shimla route?

To use the facility, the users will have to switch on Wi-Fi mode and select the RailWire WiFi network option. Then, the user will have to enter their mobile number on which they will receive an OTP or One Time Password via SMS.

This OTP will then have to be entered on the home page of RailWire, doing this will enable the user to use the free Wi-Fi facility.

This is another step forward in fulfilling PM Narendra Modi’s Digital India dream.The Indian Railways has already successfully installed high-speed Wi-Fi at around 746 stations. With this, India has created a name for itself on a global platform.
