On the auspicious occasion of Kaanum Pongal, several prominent tourist attractions in Vellore and Tiruvannamalai experienced massive crowd. The beautiful Amirthi Zoo remained jam packed with visitors from morning and the number recorded for the day was 6,348, among which 1,101 were kids.As per Sumesh Soman, district forest officer of Vellore, INR 1,02,705 was collected from the ticket amount, which is like highest collection recorded. “This was the highest one-day collection and the highest number of visitors ever. There continues to be water flow in Amirthi falls, and this has also added to the crowd,” he informed.
The same day, very famous Vellore Fort too encountered a non-stop flow of tourists and visitors. The museum situated inside the fort recorded nearly 1,000 visitors. Curator of the museum K. Saravanan said that they got a good number of visitors on Sunday and Monday too.

Sathanur Dam in Tiruvannamalai too witnessed a huge number of visitors. Also as per officials of Public Works Department, nearly 15,000 persons (on an average) came to visit the dam on Tuesday. Constructed across the Thenpennai River, this dam is around 30 km away from Thiruvannamalai city centre and is a favourite picnic spot of people.
