Latest reports suggest that the situation in Sri Lanka has improved, and the Indian External Affairs Ministry has now issued a new travel advisory for people travelling to Sri Lanka. On Tuesday, the External Affairs Ministry issued the updated travel advisory stating that the security situation in Sri Lanka has now improved, and returned to normal. However, Indians travelling to the country must be cautious.
Indian tourists have been asked to contact the Indian High Commission in Colombo, the Assistant High Commission in Kandy, and the Consulates in Jaffna and Hambantota in case they require any assistance.
Sri Lanka faced a deadly terror attack on Easter Sunday this year when three churches and three luxury hotels were bombed. 258 people were reported dead, and the incident sent shockwaves throughout the world. It was during in the aftermath that the Indian External Affairs Ministry had issued a travel advisory; now, as the situation seems to have improved, the security threat has diminished, and Indians can once again visit the beautiful island country.
