As per a Chinese state-run news agency Xinhua, these islands are government owned, however, these can be leased out to individuals.
Location
Liaoning province in China has the largest number of islands. There are a total of 633 islands in this province, and among this, 589 islands are empty, while 44 are inhabited. Some of these islands are located off the coast in the Yellow Sea, while others are dotted along the Yalu River in China.
Rentals
The cheapest rental option is $535, but the prices can go as high as $3.6 million per 2.5 acres a year. The pricing is done on a six-tier scale basis having future plans for development. Besides, the active marine wildlife and environment, along with beaches have also taken into pricing consideration.
Requirements
1) People leasing an island will have to present detailed plans to the Chinese government
2) They’ll have to ensure that the projects don’t require land reclamation
3) They’ll have to come up with a measure to protect the environment.
These islands will be rented under nine categories, such as, agriculture, urban development, fishing, tourism, and renewable energy, among others. So people can choose their categories and purpose of renting the island.
