Himachal’s Shangarh is all about quaint countryside with unforgettable views

Summer is here and our search for places offbeat, quiet and cooler – weather-wise – has brought us to one pretty village in Sainj Valley, Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh. That village is called Shangarh.

Shangarh is a high altitude village and is known for its picturesque landscapes of lush greenery and serene atmosphere. During the winter months, Shangarh stays covered in several inches of snow, but come spring/summer, that same landscape turns into a glorious meadow-ey one, the one that will definitely make you want to roll around.


If you love all things nature-related, you will fall in love with Shangarh. The village is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys. Shangarh is effortlessly gorgeous in that way.


What’s there for tourists?


Shangarh can be considered a good tourist destination for those who appreciate natural beauty, tranquility, and offbeat locations. However, it's important to note that Shangarh is a relatively remote and secluded village so accommodation options are extremely limited. There is one Forest Rest House though where, if you book well in advance, you will be able to fix a room for yourself. Either that, or you camp out.



It doesn't have many tourist amenities or facilities compared to more developed tourist destinations. Basically, it’s the kind of destination that fits perfectly for travelers who are comfortable with a more rustic and less touristy experience. Are you one of them?


Where it lacks in amenities, you will find ample photo opportunities. The endless meadows, the lush forests and the nearby mountains will give you plenty of pretty frames.
