K J Alphons, the Union Minister of State for Tourism, recently mentioned that Govardhan or Goverdhan, a prime pilgrimage centre for Indians in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, will soon be developed as a top-notch tourism destination. Situated about 25 km from Mathura, Govardhan is considered a revered site by the Hindus, who associate it with Lord Krishna.
Alphons also informed that INR 25.75 crores would be given for the construction of a multi-level parking that would be able to accommodate around 300 vehicles, while INR 3 crores would be provided for the renovation of Sur Kuti Parasauli-based 'Maharas' venue.

Being associated with the Hindu Lord Krishna, there are various interesting places to visit in Govardhan. Some essential visits here are Govardhan Hill, Haridev Mandir, Cenotaph of Maharaj Ramkishan Ji, Sankarshan Kund and Gulal Kund, among others.
