Genzano

Though technically a part of the Roman Castles, Genzano deserves a separate mention. You can visit this destination at any time of the year and for 2 days every year takes place a flower festival named Infiorata. One whole street is turned into an artistic exhibition of huge colourful carpets made of flowers. A common theme is chosen every year and artists design their creations according to the given subject. At the end of the festival an historical parade with people in costume walk the whole length of the carpeted area before the zone is opened to the public for the joy of the kids that start chasing one each other throwing bunches of extravagant petals. Be careful with the lens of your camera as it might accidently catch dust mixed with flowers. The “Infiorata di Genzano” is a religious event that takes place from Saturday to Monday following the celebration of Corpus Domini in June. Before or after the parade, you can walk along the pebbled streets of the historical centre of Genzano overlooking the Lake of Nemi. Genzano can be reached by public bus from Anagnina Terminal, connected to the Red line of the metro from Rome.
