Garjiya Devi Temple

Time to shift focus from wilderness, natural beauty and heritage and indulge in some spiritual activities, here around Ramnagar. On the banks of Kosi River, a steep climb atop a rock through flight of stairs brings you to the Garjiya Devi temple. The temple is a Shakti shrine and is dedicated to Garjiya Devi, daughter of God Giriraj and wife of Lord Shiva. The temple is located in Garjiya Village and is one of the most important and sacred temples of the region. Locals have immense faith in this temple and believe that their wishes can be fulfilled if they offer prayers here. Apart from the main goddess, devotees also worship Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha and Goddess Saraswati here.
There are stalls that sell pooja items for worship of the deity along with stalls offering food and tea. The view from the top of the rock where the temple is situated is good with mountains and river Kosi adding their grace. A lot of people spend some time sitting near the river and enjoy the serene beauty around; however, during monsoon the water level rises and hence a visit during this time is preferably avoided.
A large number of devotees pay a visit to this temple; however the number reaches its highest point during Kartik Purnima, the festival of lights, when the entire temple teems with beauty and devotion.
