Game of Thrones is probably one of the most-watched series in the history of television. While the last season still far away, HBO has announced its intention to throw the gates open for the public of all the Northern Ireland shoot locations. This includes the iconic Winterfell (House of Starks) and Castle Black (headquarters of the Night's Watch). Not only this, but the channel has also promised more formal studio tours.
In a media report, John McGrillen, Chief Executive of Tourism NI (Northern Ireland), stressing of the popularity of the show mentioned that this project will definitely be a game changer for Northern Ireland on the global tourism level and that they are very much excited with HBO’s announcement. He also said that the country is waiting eagerly to welcome more and more tourists to their beautiful home.
The inspiration comes from the globally renowned movie series The Lord of the Rings, which was shot at various pretty locations in New Zealand. The New Zealand tourism board experienced an immediate rise in the number of visitors to the country as soon as all the shooting locations were opened for public. So, without any doubt, Northern Ireland is expecting to benefit from this move as the series has a huge global fan following.
