Of course we all know about the India-Pakistan border at Wagah, but what about other international borders of India? India is surrounded by other nations, notably, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Pakistan, and China. What we don’t know is where to go in order to experience India’s borders. If you are looking for an experience to topple all other travel experiences, then we suggest you head to these border areas. However, a word of caution, not all border areas are open for tourism, and you must always carry ID proofs when you go there.
India-Pakistan border – Wagah, Punjab
India-China – Nathu La Pass, Sikkim
India-Bhutan – Jaigaon, West Bengal
If you want to get a slight taste of Bhutan, head to Jaigaon. The border town is a quiet and peaceful one, with a lot of natural splendour. Jaigaon also consists of a gate at the border that is known as the Bhutan Gate.
India-Bangaldesh – Dawki, Meghalaya
A charming border in the beautiful state of Meghalaya, this one shares its border with Bangladesh’s Sylhet region. It is a very friendly border, as you will see numerous Indian and Bangladeshi people coming here every day. Even hawkers from both the countries set up shops for tourists. But be careful because there would be Border Security Forces patrolling the region.
India-Sri Lanka – Dhanushkodi, Tamil Nadu
Located on Pamban Island, this is a beautiful border town that connects India with Sri Lanka. This is very important because it is the only land border between India and Sri Lanka. The town was abandoned after the cyclone of 1964, and legend has it that this is where the Ram Setu was built, so it has a special significance.
