Age is just a number and this 70-year-old grandmother has only proved the fact further by conquering one of the world’s most dangerous roads, Bolivia’s Death Road, on her two-wheeler! Meet Mirtha Munoz, the oldest-ever competitor in Bolivia´s renowned and heart-skipping 60 km Skyrace.
This is one route that has claimed thousands of lives; most of the times, the bodies could not be recovered as well. Yet, even this threat did not discourage the Iron Lady from doing the undoable at her age! A few of the prime attractions of this deadly road is dense fog, heavy rains, unannounced rockslides and life-threatening cliffs!
Munoz took to biking several years ago as a process of healing and rebuilding. She suffered an emotional upheaval after her son died at a young age. It was then that her family friend, who also happened to be a psychologist, advised her to start biking. As per him, it would have helped her get through the pain and in restarting life. And, in no time, biking became her passion.
After finishing the race, Munoz said that the climb was vertical and there’s no rest at all. Well, this is what we call a pinnacle achievement!
