Yes, you read that right! By the year 2022, visitors would be able to reach the famous Elephanta Caves from Mumbai in just 15 minutes; the same journey takes around an hour now and is quite a long one. Elephanta Caves are located around 10 km away from Mumbai on an island, and are probably one of the most visited tourist attractions in the city that attracts globetrotters in large numbers.
Keeping all these things in mind, the central government is planning an 8 km long ropeway over the Arabian Sea that will connect Mumbai and Elephanta Caves. Not only this, after the completion of the project, it will also become the first over-the-ocean ropeway ever constructed in India. Mumbai Port Trust will be working on the ropeway project and as per reports, nearly 30 cable cars will operate on the route.
