For a rare chance to see beyond the mysterious veil of the Islamic faith, non-Muslims may enter Jumeirah Mosque at certain times. Arranged by the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding, 75-minute tours of the building and its interior are organised a few mornings a week.

Visitors have the opportunity to ask questions about Islam in an informal environment during a Q&A session. Guides are not shy about discussing controversial or seemingly uncomfortable topics, and are happy to address issues ranging from terrorism to women’s rights.

Built in 1978 according to traditional Fatimid architecture, the Jumeirah Mosque is one of the most prominent symbols and landmarks of Dubai. Its beauty warrants a second visit at dusk when the lights begin to glow, or at night when it is fully illuminated.
