If you have watched Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince you will find the panorama of the Cliffs of Moher very familiar. The cliffs were the location of the pivotal scene when Harry and Dumbledore land up on a rock surrounded by a wild sea, in their quest to find one of Lord Voldemort’s horcruxes. The massive cliffs soar 120 metres above the Atlantic at Hag’s Head, and are at their maximum height of 214 metres near O’Brien’s Tower. Together, they cover a distance of 8 kilometres along the Wild Atlantic Way. The cliffs are named after the fort Moher, which stood at Hag’s Head till 1808. The Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience gives you a sweeping view of the cliffs, the Galway Bay, the Aran Islands, and several mountain ranges nearby. Alternatively, take a guided cliff walk from Doolin to the Cliffs of Moher, where you can experience the beauty and ruggedness of the cliffs in a more natural way, accompanied by a local farmer who will regale you with the history and folklore of the area. You can also take a ferry trip and view the cliffs from the sea or take an Aer Arann scenic flight and see them from the air.
