Chile declares state of emergency in tourist hotspots due to public unrest

Emergency has been declared in Chilean capital, Santiago, due to continuous public unrest. Hours after this incident, the Chilean Government has now declared a state of emergency in various tourist destinations.

As per the latest news reports, the Interior Ministry have has now also declared emergency in cities, such as Talco, Valparaiso, Chillan Veijo, Chillan, Padre Las Cass, and Temuco. All these cities are popular tourist spots and share proximity to the Pacific Ocean.
Apart from all these developments, the capital’s metro service tweeted that the majority of the subway system was closed on Monday because of the damage caused by the protestors, along with the line that runs between Pajaritos and Los Dominicos, which remained operational during the day.

Chile has been facing public unrest since October 6, and during this time, the authorities also increased the subway fares. While this public demonstration started off as a peaceful protest, it has now turned into violent rallies, leading to clashes between the public and law enforcement agencies.
The latest update is that because the protest turned increasingly violent, the authorities had to eventually declare emergency in the provinces of Chacabuco and Santiago, and in the municipalities of San Bernardo and Puente Alto.
