Missed out beach fun on the pebbly beaches of Nice, let’s take you to the sandy ones in Cannes, although there are reasons far more serious to visit this resort town of the French Riviera. Travelling from Nice, you can reach Cannes in about 30 minutes by train, which by far is the best option, else by bus or car in around an hour or more, depending upon traffic.
The moment you step in Cannes, you will notice that even the air exudes opulence, with flashy cars being driven around, women with designer bags, flamboyant men flaunting expensive watches, couture shops having a busy day, a certain Hollywood kind of feel to it! My advice, when in Cannes dress up your immaculate best, for you don't want that inglorious stare. If you so desire to visit Cannes during the film festival held in May, then you have a pretty optimistic chance of celebrity spotting along the red-carpet entrance to Palais des Festivals et des Congrès. But be prepared for the extreme gush of visitors and fully booked hotels, a just price for your celebrity love! Do remember, your only foray into the festival building can be through the guided tour organised by Cannes Tourist Office.

All the glitzy hotels and couture shops are lined along the Promenade de la Croisette; don’t worry you won't have to spend a penny to enjoy a stroll on this palm-shaded stretch with a view of the ocean on one hand and all man’s glory on the other. If you think it’s time to ditch the opulence and switch back to reality, then visit Le Suquet, the old quarter of Cannes with cobbled streets and quaint pace. This is where the locals live and dine. There are many dining places and bars, which are quite popular with locals and tourists alike.
If you thought Cannes was all man’s creation, then its sandy beaches will prove you wrong. With a view of the calm turquoise Mediterranean waters, these beaches are every traveller’s delight. There are several public beaches, such as Plage Macé and Zamenhof Beach, along with many private beaches with the notable ones like Midi Plage and Belle Plage. Although you pay a little extra for access to these beaches, they are relatively less crowded with gourmet dining options as well!
