Finland is the best country for wildlife travel, says report

The latest Global Wildlife Travel Index 2019 states that Finland is the best destination in the world for wildlife travel. The factors that helped Finland achieve this spot are its unique and varied diversity of species, high levels of environmental sustainability, natural landscape, and conservation efforts to complement it all.

What is Global Wildlife Index?
While considering the list, this list takes into concern various factors, such as conservation efforts, wildlife biodiversity, the prevalence of national parks, and then ranks best countries for wildlife tourism.

This year, however, the factors were expanded and included increased focus around environmental sustainability, which is immensely important for the eco-conscious traveller.
Why Finland?
The survey has been conducted by True Luxury Travel, and found Finland to be the best destination in the world for wildlife travel. The country also continued to witness a rapid increase in visitor levels over the last year. It secured top rank owing to another reason, the 39 national parks, and the fact that it has forest areas that cover more than 73.1 per cent of its land.

Also, while considering environmental sustainability, the report checked on the risks that various groups of species are exposed to across every country. Then, using the Red List Index, the extinction risk of different species was assessed by considering all possible aspects of threats. Sweden that grabbed the second spot in the overall report, however, secured the top position in this category. As per the newly-released report, other countries that managed to grab a spot in the list for wildlife travel are―Brazil, Canada, the United States of America, Norway, Spain, Germany, Poland, and Slovenia.
