Built originally in 1570, this imposing building, with its arched doors and windows reminds a visitor of the town's legacy of fishing and other sea-faring occupations. Andrew was a Scottish fisherman who was the 'first-called' to be one of the twelve apostles or primary disciples of Jesus Christ. He is revered as the patron saint of fishermen and young women. Just as you reach Vasco, taking the Zuari Road from the airport, this beautiful 16th century stone and lime building greets you. Prayer services are held in Konkani on Monday evenings and in English on Tuesdays. The church runs a school in the vicinity and you are likely to hear playful kids during their lunch break. The town of Vasco observes the annual feast of St. Andrew on 30th November. If you are an unmarried woman searching for a partner, go partake and rejoice on this day in Goa. Who knows, your future partner may be revealed to you—that is what the beliefs say! The church opens everyday from 9 AM to 12:30 PM and 4 PM to 7 PM. If you have a confession to make, knock on the door between 4:30 PM and 5:45 PM on Thursdays.
