Buddhism (Mahayana form) is the main religion among the people and there are a lot of Tibetan refugees living in harmony along with the indigenous Adi tribe. Another small village known as Norbuling which is a 20 minute walk from Gelling lies to the east of Gelling. There is an inspection bungalow in Gelling run by the state government which is available for accommodation and food for the tourists and travelers alike. This is also the last village where the BSNL signal works fairly well and there is a good presence of the Indian army in and around. There is a helipad and a small monastery is perched at the top of this village. The trek route to the last Indian village Bishing goes through the helipad area.
