Whether you sleep in and do nothing but read in peace and quiet or you walk every inch of the city from morning till night, you decide how your holiday is going to be like. For those who love this kind of travel, these destinations in India are perfect.
Landour-Mussoorie, Uttarakhand
This British India-era cantonment town is a perfect little town to sit back and relax or walk around exploring the town the whole day. The place is uncomplicated and easy to navigate. Are you a Ruskin Bond fan? It’s great if you are, because apart from the fact that Landour is his hometown, as you take a walk around, you will see why this little town was such a big part of his stories.
Darjeeling, West Bengal
Another British India-era town that has always been a favourite of so many solo travellers – Darjeeling. From iconic tea gardens to pretty little cafes in the town, you will never get tired of this hill station.
Hampi, Karnataka
Hampi is a place where even the ruins of bygone kingdoms look spectacular. Hampi is not just a rocky outcrop, you see. Hampi is a photographer’s delight and a history lover’s haven. Do try the coracle ride on the Tungabhadra river and enjoy the pretty sunset.
Udaipur, Rajasthan
You don’t really need a group of friends to explore the gorgeous forts and palaces of Udaipur. A solo trip across Udaipur will let you experience the city’s splendour at your own pace. And to fully appreciate the beauty of the place, you need to travel slow.
Alleppey, Kerala
Backwaters, lagoons, beaches and quaint little humble villages, there’s plenty of fun in all these. And the best part is that you get to get the best of what’s traditional here in Alleppey. From traditional boats to ayurvedic treatments, you can’t go wrong here.
Puducherry
There’s more to the French quarters in Puducherry. The local and traditional side of the town is something you need to explore this time. The local markets, temples, villages with traditional Tamil homes, it’s as if time stood still in Puducherry. There is no dearth of old world charm in Puducherry. Interesting and fun cafes and beach parties are the other side of Puducherry if you feel like letting your hair down.
Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh
From anywhere in Dharamsala, you can enjoy the view of the snow-clad Dhauladhar range. And then there are Buddhist monasteries where you can explore the Budhhist culture and tradition. Check out the markets and cool cafes. Some of these cafes serve some of the best Italian food, we hear. If you want to put your legs to use, go for the Triund trek.
