Believe it or not, there is a railway station in West Bengal that has no name

While there are hundreds of railway stations in India, have you ever come across a railway station that has no name at all? Call it bizarre, but indeed, there exists a railway station in West Bengal that has no name written on its blank yellow coloured signboard.
35 km from Burdwan district in West Bengal, there is a railway station that has remained deprived of a name. As the peculiar story goes, long ago, two villages in this district, Raina and Rainagar, sharing the same border got involved into a serious brawl regarding the name of the railway station. Earlier, a narrow-gauge route called the Bankura-Damodar railway route would pass through it. However, once the route got a makeover into a broad gauge line, the new station that was constructed fell within the territory of Raina village. However, the discord arose among the two villages when the people of neighbouring village refused to acknowledge the truth about its location.


Ever since then, the station has remained unnamed much to the amusement and confusion of the passengers who de-board during the train-halt. As of now, nine trains make a pit stop at this station. There are two platforms at this station. It is located in the south-eastern division of Adra zone. It is situated 26 m from the sea level, and the nearest airport is Kolkata Netaji S C Bose International Airport/CCU (77 km). However, the tickets sold at this station bear the old name of the station – Rainagar. Apparently, Rainagar is located in the interiors of West Bengal.
