You can reach the Rift Valley lakes south by road into the lower Omo basin, just north of the Jade Sea (Lake Turkana). To give you some idea of just how remote this area is Omo National Park receives on average 60 visitors a year.

The major attractions of the South are the nomadic tribes, the Omo River and basin, Rift valley lakes and the open wildernesses. The fishing for Nile Perch is fantastic on Lakes Chamo and Abaya. Some of the world's largest crocodiles are also found in the same lake.

A journey into the south-western area of Ethiopia is as much a 'pilgrimage' to naturalists as a trip to the north is for historians. Beautiful scenery, a chain of sparkling lakes, abundant bird life and a kaleidoscope of colourful cultures all combine to make this part of Africa simply unique.
