Adolphe Bridge or ‘New’ Bridge is one of the most iconic landmarks in Luxembourg City. Not only is it one of the major tourist attractions, but also an important link between the two important quarters of Luxembourg City—Ville Haute and Gare. Taking traffic across the Pétrusse River, the bridge has now become a national symbol for Luxembourg. Constructed between 1900 and 1903, the bridge held the record for the biggest stone arch bridge in the world for two years after its inauguration. The design of the bridge was exemplary for the time, for it has a big central arch instead of many small ones. The bridge was named after Grand Duke Adolphe, who was head of the state from 1890 to 1905.
