A trip to Hauz Khas monuments would now require an entry fee

Hauz Khas monuments located in South Delhi are soon going to be ticketed. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has reportedly issued a notification that aims to make the 13th century complex at Hauz Khas a ticketed monument.
Hauz Khas that translates to Royal Tank in Farsi, was the main source of water during the old Mughal days. It was part of Siri, which was the second medieval city of the Delhi Sultanate. The tank existed during the reign of Alauddin Khalji. Several other buildings and tombs were built here overlooking the water tank. Today, it is one of the most celebrated areas where locals and travellers come for walks and to spend a quiet time amidst the ruins of the past.


The Hauz Khas monument entry fee has been set for INR 15 for Indian nationals and INR 200 for foreign nationals. Furthermore, ASI believes that the site is a potential revenue generator, as thousands of people already visit the site for free. Yet another important reason to turn Hauz Khas monuments into a ticketed destination is the fact that Hauz Khas is a major party hub, where numerous people visit every day to drink and dine, and so there is immense tourist potential. There are plans to add amenities such as a cafeteria, benches, and souvenir shops.
Plans are also being made to establish a museum that would help visitors to learn about other monuments maintained by ASI.
