Nestled amidst nature in the dense Sindhudurg region, Tarkarli is an unusually beautiful place to visit for beach lovers. Considered to be one of the most beautiful beaches in Maharashtra, Tarkarli is located six kilometres from the south of Malvan along the Konkan coast. With tiny fishing villages dotting the area, this place is dotted with narrow winding roads skirted by small houses. The major attraction at Tarkarli is the long and narrow stretch of beach with pristine clear waters and clean sand, which is a rare phenomenon nowadays. On a clear day, you can see the sea bed up to a depth of 20ft. Along with a variety of sea shells in different shapes and sizes, one also gets to see a large number of shell fish that line the shore.
Fun at Tarkarli:
Apart from simply lazing around on the beach and having fun in the water, a lot of entertainment options await you at Tarkarli. A ferry ride to visit the Sindhudurg sea fort, being one of Maharashtra's most popular and important sea forts at Malvan, is a must. This 350-year-old ancient fort built by Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is a great tourist attraction owing to its architecture. Although the fort needs maintenance, the view of the sea from here is just amazing. A ride through the backwaters of the Karli river to the Dolphin Point is worth the effort. The lucky ones are sure to spot some dolphins basking in the sun!
Cute Konkani huts with private beaches are excellent options for accommodation, making your stay a pleasant experience.
