5 Southeast Asian countries to visit, and their visa requirements for Indians
Southeast Asia is a treasure trove for travellers keen to explore diverse cultures, and stunning landscapes. The region has something to offer for everyone. However, understanding the visa requirements is crucial for smooth travel planning. This article highlights six must-visit Southeast Asian countries and breaks down the visa rules for Indian nationals, ensuring you have all the information you need for a hassle-free journey.
Thailand
In November 2023, Thailand introduced a significant change for Indian travellers by waiving visa requirements. This visa exemption, valid till November 11, 2024, which was initially up to May 10, 2024, allows Indian nationals to visit Thailand for up to 30 days without the need for a visa. The Tourism Authority of Thailand reports a marked increase in daily Indian arrivals, from 4,000 to 5,500 people, highlighting the popularity of this policy. With the visa-free entry, Thailand remains an attractive destination for Indian tourists, diminishing the necessity for a joint-visa programme.
Laos
Laos offers a visa-on-arrival option for Indian nationals, which adds to the ease of travel in Southeast Asia. Indian visitors can obtain a visa upon arrival, valid for 30 days, provided they have valid travel documents. This visa-friendly approach makes Laos accessible without prior visa applications, aligning well with the travel habits of Indian tourists.
Myanmar
Myanmar has streamlined its visa process by offering an e-visa option to Indian nationals. This digital approach allows for a 28-day stay and is valid for 90 days from the date of issuance. The e-visa convenience supports spontaneous travel plans, making Myanmar accessible to Indian travellers with minimal bureaucracy.
Vietnam
Vietnam’s e-visa facility is another convenient option for Indian tourists. The e-visa, which is valid for 15 to 30 days and can be extended, makes Vietnam an easy destination to explore. Given the existing visa arrangements, Vietnam is already well-positioned to welcome Indian travellers without requiring additional visa facilitation.
Cambodia
Cambodia also offers an e-visa service, simplifying entry for Indian tourists. The ease of obtaining an electronic visa positions Cambodia as a hassle-free destination within Southeast Asia. The existing visa policies already make Cambodia accessible, further reducing the necessity for a joint-visa programme for Indian travellers.
